John C. Shin, M.D. was raised in Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University. He graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed his internship at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Dr. Shin served his Residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and completed fellowship training in corneal and external disease and refractive surgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Since joining MarinEyes in 1998, Dr. Shin has performed more than 4,000 cataract surgeries. He practices comprehensive ophthalmology with an emphasis on cataract and glaucoma. He views the doctor patient relationship as  a partnership and encourages patients to be active participants in their care.

Dr. Shin lives in San Rafael and balances his medical credentials with experience as a professional lead guitarist and music appreciator as well as interests in computers, fishing, hiking, cooking, gymnastics and tennis.
